Diabetes Undone – A Wellness Program for Everyone

This presentation demonstrates the value of participating in the Diabetes Undone Program. You don’t have to have diabetes or pre diabetes to benefit. This program is effective for anyone seeking to improve their health. If a program is effective in helping reverse the inflammation, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, circulation and immune problems associated with diabetes, just think what it can do for everyone else. The bottom line is that reversing the underlying causes of diabetes also reverses the main underlying causes of all chronic diseases.

Hello Healthy

The book based on the video series “12 Weeks to Wellness & Optimal Health” is now here.

Hello Healthy

As I work with clients in my office, by phone, or by Skype, and as I speak at health seminars or medical conferences, people often ask, “Of all the health strategies we’ve been discussing and learning about—which is the most important?”

Hello Healthy is a book about helping you get the synergy effect by applying all the strategies necessary to reach your full health and wellness potential. The twelve chapters of this book are a series of twelve sessions in a practical program that you can follow as you go about your daily routine. These are twelve major strategies that I specifically address with each patient, regardless of their health concerns or wellness goals. They provide the foundation that each of us can use to master our genetic risk by actually turning off disease- causing genes and turning on the genes that promote health.

As you come to better understand the principles we’ll be discussing—and incorporate them as part of your new lifestyle—you’ll be able to enjoy a higher level of health and wellness than you’ve ever thought possible.
Hello Healthy is how friends and family may soon be addressing you!

Wes Youngberg, DrPH, MPH, CNS, FACLM
Lifestyle Medicine Specialist & Clinical Nutritionist

There is no better description of this book than what others have said about “Hello Healthy”

“What you hold in your hand is nothing short of a health education masterpiece. In it Wes Youngberg weaves a tapestry of anecdotes that provide a powerful and compelling case for health-behavior change and adoption of a healthy lifestyle.  Wes provides a detailed rationale and very practical cutting-edge health advice that, if followed, will produce in the reader a reasonable approach to life transformation.  His easy going writing style is “smooth” yet so filled with up-to-date health counsel that it cannot be classified as casual reading.  Anyone can make improvements following his modern rendition of age-old principles that we use in our own Lifestyle Medicine practice at Wildwood.  This is must reading for the sick and required reading for the well!”

Zeno L. Charles-Marcel, MD
Vice President for Medical Affairs.

“Once again, Wes Youngberg shares health strategies that transcend the usual medical dialogue. By giving each of us information that we can use personally, he has empowered health behaviors that can impact our enjoyment of life, our productivity, and our longevity. With a practitioner’s understanding of the difficulty of change, Wes gently encourages each of us to seek the best for ourselves.”

Richard Hart, MD, DrPH
President, Loma Linda University Health

“With U.S. healthcare spending having just crossed the $3 trillion dollar line, Dr. Wes Youngberg’s book couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. The topics covered in his book are the ones patients have been asking me for the past two decades when I worked at a medical group. Now that I’m back in an academic center, these are the very topics we are researching and teaching our public health graduate students, because these are the challenges they’ll face when they get out into the real wold. If you don’t have time for grad school, but care about your health and lifestyle medicine, this book will save you a lot of time, money, and improve the health and quality of life for you and your family.”

“Dr. Youngberg does it again! He uses the latest research and real patient stories to teach us how we as individuals and as a society can transform our health. He shows that those with disease can still achieve optimal wellness. Following his plan form the beginning could help save our troubled Healthcare system by preventing disease from even starting. This book is for anyone wanting to live a long, prosperous healthy life.”

how it can save your life

“Heart disease has been the leading killer of Americans for the past 100 years and despite advances in medical therapy it shows no sign of relenting. It is clear that Americans are bringing this on themselves by the lifestyle choices they make. As a Cardiologist I see the effects of smoking and poor diet and sedentary lifestyle affecting younger and younger patients. It doesn’t have to be this way. Nearly 90% of Heart disease and other lifestyle diseases could be prevented by the principles articulated so well in Dr. Youngberg’s book. The principles of a healthy lifestyle are laid out in an easy to understand approach, along with compelling stories of real people who have made changes in their lifestyle and benefited from a more abundant life as a result. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to live a healthier and fulfilling life, free of lifestyle diseases.”

“Poor health is the modern world’s ‘plague,’ literally destroying mankind’s potential to live a productive, satisfying life. This book explains in simple, practical terms how to reverse that plague and achieve optimal health. Read it. Live it. Share it. It just might be the best thing you’ll ever do.”

Natural Remedy for Chronic Insomnia and Adrenal Fatigue

Can’t sleep? That was Tammy’s long-term problem. For years she had struggled, unable to turn off the many thoughts racing through her mind at night. Even with daily exercise and feeling physically tired, she simply could not fall asleep without hours of restless anxiety and then could only sleep 3 to 4 hours before waking to more of the same. Tired of multiple prescription sleeping pills and their side effects, Tammy was desperate for something that worked without making other problems worse.

Multiple studies show that sleep problems set the stage for weight gain, diabetes, adrenal fatigue, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disease, and certain cancers. Because of this, I encouraged her to support a natural sleep rhythm by daily spending some time outdoors in the bright sunlight, preferably with 10 to 20 minute outdoor walks after each meal.  She was also encouraged to schedule regular meals and always eat breakfast.

A 4-hour Glucose & Cortisol Tolerance Test found that she had significant adrenal fatigue. To rebuild her adrenal reserve capacity, I suggested Tammy use Adrenal Young Advanced, with breakfast and lunch. In addition we used Glycemic Foundation to prevent both high and low blood sugars.

Because Tammy’s goal was to minimize her need for prescription sleeping pills, I encouraged her to start YoungMax Sleep – an amazingly helpful supplement. It contains all natural ingredients that pass the blood brain barrier, and promote smooth muscle relaxation in the central nervous system by combining therapeutic levels of seven key sleep inducing herbs and nutrients.

Within a few days, Tammy was falling asleep within 30 minutes of bedtime and sleeping at least six hours without waking up. Soon, with this combined treatment plan, Tammy was feeling better than she had in over 10 years. Now she had the energy to effectively address the things that previously promoted her anxiety. Within the first month Tammy’s fatigue decreased from a 9/10 to a 4/10. By the end of 3 months her fatigue was down to 2/10 and her chronic pain had improved dramatically.

Goodbye Diabetes. Goodbye Insomnia.

At 59 years old, Stan had diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, Vitamin D deficiency, a high Cardiac CRP, and elevated serum homocysteine.

The Glucose and Insulin Tolerance Test had clearly determined that a primary cause of his diabetes was insulin resistance. Even though Stan’s cholesterol was not very high, the new NMR LipoProfile had indicated he had an excessive LDL cholesterol particle number suggesting a greater risk for heart disease.

We spent the initial two visits interpreting the tests and outlining a comprehensive lifestyle and nutritional medicine program that would optimize Stan’s ability to reverse his health risk.

“Can you help me consolidate and simplify my nutritional supplement program?” Stan asked during his third office visit. Over the years he had accumulated a total of 15 different supplements each in its own container. Concerned that he might be getting too much of some and too little of other nutrients, Stan asked, “Can we figure out a way to limit the number of supplements I take and still get the optimal nutrition I need?”

Stan’s was in luck. Recently, a new technology made it possible for wellness clinics to economically personalize a patient’s supplement program and consolidate all the supplements into just one bottle! Some patients prefer to have one bottle for the AM supplements and one for the PM supplements. Others prefer a bottle designed for each meal three main meals.

Since the volume of most supplements is primarily made up of fillers, excipients, and additives, this new technology was able to take the active nutritional ingredients from 5 to 10 different supplement capsules or tables and combine them into just one capsule!

Even after addressing Stan’s new lab findings, we were able to consolidate over 15 supplement bottles into just three bottles containing capsules that were completely free of additives, fillers, and excipients. Stan no longer feels overwhelmed when he gets the supplements out each morning, and neither does he worry about getting the right dose or if he is getting the highest clinical grade of nutrients and herbs.

Within four months of the comprehensive lab testing, Stan was able to lower his blood sugars and A1c so effectively that he no longer needs any medications. In fact his labs show he doesn’t have diabetes any more.

The high LDL particle number of over 1600 that was promoting artery plaque has now dropped into the optimal range of under 1000. His homocysteine has dropped from a high risk 14.1 to a healthy 8.2 and his Cardiac CRP as a measure of inflammation improved by 50%. These encouraging results motivate Stan to continue his daily exercise plan and his focus on a well-balanced nutrition program.
